Welcome » PovertyCure.

Check it out and read it through. Maybe it’s time we need a MIND for the poor and not just a heart.

You know we hear all the time how if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, but if you teach him to fish, you feed him for life. It’s true, so far as it goes. Unfortunately it just doesn’t go far enough. One of the many systemic problems that perpetuates global poverty is that there are people who want to fish, who know how to fish (to continue the tire analogy), but cannot–whether it’s a lack of rule of law that keeps them from obtaining licenses or equipment, or maybe it “compassion” programs from western businesses that undercut the local producer. The solution, then, cannot come by throwing more money at the problem, or even necessarily teaching more skills. The solution must come from systemic change within the country, and also from a change in mindset within the West. Flooding local markets with free goods doesn’t pull people out of poverty, it creates further dependency.

Okay, I am admittedly on my soapbox.  I’ll step down now. Just check out the website and see what you think. Does PovertyCure have the perfect solution? Probably not, largely because there is no perfect solution. However, does it offer a better, more thoughtful and thought-provoking solution than I’ve seen in a long time? Absolutely.
