You Never Know What You Might Find….

…at my parents’ house.

I was out visiting my Mom and Dad recently, trying to help them get stuff together to downsize their life and just generally visiting. My daughter had a blast going through all of the things my Mom has collected from around the world. (WAY too much of it came home with us, I’m afraid!)

During our explorations, we ran across a box of my Dad’s stuff. Now I’m a bit of a pen collector and near the bottom of the box was what looked like a fountain pen. I picked it up and realized it was WAY too heavy to be a pen. When I pulled off the cap, this is what I found:

Yep! It’s a stapler! Isn’t that the coolest thing???? I hadn’t seen one of these before, but have since found out quite a bit about them. (You can read up on it here.) I suspect this one was probably made in the 70s. There’s a little crack in the barrel that I think I’ll bind up with a bit of washi tape. 🙂 It takes 1/4-inch staples, which means the Tim Holtz’s Tiny Attacher refills work. WOO HOO!

My generous Dad parted with it and now it’s one of my favorite tools in the craft room. (You can see how I used it on a project here.)

Here’s a couple more pictures:

I just had to share! This is such a fun gadget. Thanks, Dad!

Have a great rest o’ the weekend!

Cheers!

Have you used the pen with the new Tim Holtz tiny attacher refills?
Do those staples fit (width and height) without any modification needed?

(I have one of the duo-fast pen staplers that I got at a yard sale but I have never had staples for it)

I tried emailing Duo-fast – all they have said so far is they don’t carry them anymore. Trying messaging Swann & Shears on Etsy to see if the staples for their Petite European Stapler are the same size (they say they are 6mm – just under 1/4″ wide but don’t know how deep they are) . If no go with them may try emailing some large staple manufacturers like ACME or someone else. If I am successful somewhere will post another message.

Won another Duo-fast off Ebay – comes with some staples. They only shipped to the U.S. (not Canada) so got sent to my parents in Arizona. Will at least have some staples to measure exactly when I eventually get it. No response yet from Swann & Shears on Etsy.
Gave what another thought were the approximate dimensions of the staples in a message to ACME – they don’t carry anything that size.

Swann&Shears has no idea if they will fit. Their listing says the staples are 6mm – just under a 1/4 inch. I could ask them for the other dimension but I am not sure of the exact dimensions of the Duo-Fast staples since I don’t have any yet. I won’t be getting my Duo-fast stapler and staples until at least January.

Does anyone have any staples left from the Duo-Fast they can measure for exact dimensions?
