Sometimes we just need a little warning

Okay, so I’ve been putting off posting this because I didn’t want to ruin the surprise for my friend. (Sue if you’re reading this and haven’t received your package from me, STOP! Move away from the blog. You may come back to it after the package arrives.) But I just have to share….

A little while ago, Sue Aughtmon blogged about having one of those weeks. You can read the post here. Go ahead. I’ll wait….

Can the girl describe life, or what?! How many weeks have I come to Sunday and thought, “Okay God. This has been nice and all, but are we done yet??” It seems like I’ve been running wind-sprints daily all week, with no end in sight. And frankly, I don’t run for anything. Well, there were those times when the kids were little and would fall down. I did run, or at least trot, over to make sure they were okay. But suffice it to say that if a mama bear and I met in the woods, I’d be more inclined to take the back-away-slowly or curl-up-in-a-ball-and-hope-for-a-minor-mauling approach than the overexerting-run-like-mad approach. I’m not a runner. Moreover, I don’t like it when life requires me to feel like one. When it does, I get very emotional.

So Sue and I are completely on the same page here. That’s why when I read her suggestion about having a warning broach, I knew I needed to do something about it. Here’s what I came up with:

I used the cloud chip board pieces are from BasicGrey‘s What’s Up line. The flag and stick pin I used for the pennant are also BasicGrey from their PB&J line. The heart on the pin was originally yellow, but I colored it purple with my Sharpies. (Yellow is much too sunny when you’re emotional!) The raindrops are made from a scalloped circle I cut using Close To My Heart‘s Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge. I then cut the scallops to make raindrop shapes. The paper I used is from the PB&J 6X6 stack. (The back of the pin is covered with paper from the What’s Up 6×6 stack, but I didn’t take a picture of it. Silly me!) “Warning” and “Caution” are printed from the computer, and “emotional” is stamped with an alphabet collection from stash, covered with Glossy Accent, and then drawn over with a Sharpie for emphasis. (While I thought dark clouds, rain, and a big red flag should sound a pretty effective warning, I didn’t want to take any chances. So I labeled it.) 🙂

The pin on the back is actually a really strong magnet. (The last thing you need on those days are pinholes in your shirt!) I have no idea where you get them, I just took one from the back of a name tag I found in the desk. (I know my name. Really. Most days….)

For the box (because presentation is important after all), I found a Red Envelope box in my stash and added to it a bit, using more paper from PB&J, a pearl from my stash (colored to match with, once again, a Sharpie), and the Martha Stewart Loops punch.

I made a little 3×3 notecard that fit inside the box (using a stamp from the Your Just My Type set by Stampin’ Up)  and voila:

I hope Sue likes it, but perhaps it’s more of a present for Scott. 😉 Regardless, it was fun to make and, let’s face it, couldn’t we all use a little warning now and then?

Have a wonderful weekend, and Happy Mother’s Day!

Cheers!
